NEWS & VIEWS (July/August '10)

Hi guys and welcome to another news and views.
I have put two months together this time –I have a lot to cover here and next month will be mad busy for me.

So here we go –what’s coming up and hap-en-in here at bodyindesign?

Our very own Jenny Garside is holding a girls posing camp here at the studio.
It is open to any girl with an interest in doing the shows.
If you are new to the sport—great, come along and learn from the best natural figure girl this country has produced. Jenny is humble –but you can not argue with her record. She has won many titles with both federations –so knows the posing and finer details- inside out
If you already compete and want to move ahead and improve –this is also for you.
Not only will posing be covered, but many aspects of stage presentation, tan, hair makeup –bikini
Here is the icing on the cake.
It’s free—yes free.
Jenny is giving up her time to help you girls out there.
It is held on Saturday the 31st of July at 2pm –here at bodyindsign and will run till finish. I am sure it will be a fantastic girls day out-meet old friends and new.
Hotel accommodation can also be suggested.
Contact Jen --- garsJ@aol.com for any details you may need.

Jenny Garside

A couple of weeks after we have the Heart of England show—August the 15th.
Some 6 girls in that—can not wait.
In fact we have 6 or so clients in most of the shows this year.
I have many new girls that have travelled a long distance to soak up the bodyindesign way of doing things. It humbles me so much.
I had one girl drive nearly 4 hours the other weekend to spend two hours with me.
Many others have been on fitness weekends—love to you all—thank you for trusting me in this part of your life.
Soooo love my work.
All is looking good—here’s to a great year -again.

My good friend Si Martin just started his own PT business called old school fitness.
Si has been a bloger on our site and a writer for the articles section now for a long time –he has a great following.
Si- is a real man’s man-and has done it all –you must check out his site.
Make sure you read his background page, amazing.
www.oldschoolfitness.co.uk

Si Martin

Started training a couple of times a week with John Heaton-John and I go way back as he was one of the first to do my Train to Train section of my business.
So we are real close.
He has his show head on and is gunning to win this year.
I must say—and you here this all the time—I have never seen him look as good –I swear. He has been doing –a ton of different things over the past year and made incredible gains. Condition is already at freak level.
All I can say is look out guys.
We have joked that he is Rocky-I am Apollo and Chris is Paulie—lol.
We are having some real strong hard workouts—these can be followed on the blog section. If you join the twitter group –I have just started you will know when something is up for you to read, as I will tweet the blog-as well as other things of interest. Motivation –and knowledge guys-soak it up and use it.

On with the 3 year plan to further improve –family life and that of bodyindesign.
Really started to implement little goals and structures to achieve the main goal.
One is we are working on streamlining and de-cluttering our lives.
We need a clean slate when we move and need a more simple form of life.
This has taken and will take a huge amount of time-sorting out the house.
One area of de clutter that took many hours over the last few weeks and that was to sort though all the treasures –I have –Louise calls it crap –ha-ha.
I am not joking –the books I have could fill a library. Not to mention old bodybuilding mag’s-comics –god -tons of stuff.
I am a very tidy guy—the girls here say I have OCD.
But that said –I collect stuff—well have in the past—if I have 300 books I will not be far off with that guess.
So it’s a big de-clutter and I am loving it—what a great feeling I had of satisfaction I had over the weekend when I sorted all my ‘storage’ areas.
I will sell and give it away—what I sell I will put to paying more off the big ‘M’ and keep on keeping life simple and basic.
One great book that I will not be passing on any time soon is Your Money or Your Life. By Vicky Robin, a very good book that has become a bible of sorts to me in making me think and use the money I earn do more. Not material things as I have been into real big spends—I would much rather experience something.
I could not tell you-well I could but I will not-how much money gets flittered away in our house. Well in order to reach the 3 year goal and have a modest –but dream home that will be self sufficient –save us tons of money and allows us to live an even better, basic simple life. I have to work smart now-use what I earn smart and chip at that goal. Great book –you will love it.

That’s all folks---love to ya all Ian.

NEWS & VIEWS (June '10)

Hi guys and welcome to another news and views.
Well the show season is off with a bang --the Yorkshire was a great show with some awesome bodies.
I have always said that the Yorkshire is always a hot bed of talent- and this year was no exception.
We here at bodyindesign had another win and and a second place in the figure class.
With Caroline Birkinshaw taking the top spot in her first show after making an amazing transformation in just over a year. She had worked under the watchful eye of Jen here at B-I-D.
Second place went to Joanne Todd--and also best presentation --huge potential--again amazing changes, worked under Danielle here at B-I-D.
Frances Heywood--retuned to the stage and training after having a few years off.
Fran looked amazing -but was marked down for being too lean, Fran at 51--is an inspiration to all women.
We have a huge gang at each of the other shows this year, girls and guys. Seven girls at each and most of them new to it. As you can see we are growing with clients from all over the country, travailing for hours to have a workout or boot camp here at bodyindesign.
It humbles me, that people would travel so far--to soak up the knowledge and inspiration that is here.

At the Yorkshire I was also doing something that I had not done for years and that is I was writing a show report for our very own Natural Press Magazine. For those of you that do not remember NP--it was a subscription mag that Gary and I produced some 8 or so years ago. We feel now is the time to bring it back, the time is right for magazines at the moment with subscriptions on the rise for all sorts of magazines. We also feel there is a market for a natural mag that will have the UK and Worlds best natural bodybuilders and figure athletes featured. Gary and I are going at this venture "big style" and will also have some big names on board writing for us.

On the home page of this site you will be able to read some of the back issues and get a feel for the magazine, we plan on being bigger and better with the new issues. We have both come a long way since those days and will put what we have absorbed in business and knowledge into this magazine.

As you can guess I am real busy -working towards that 3 year goal, that said training is going very well and my diet is bang on as always. I am looking to be in real good shape by October for my Birthday and awesome condition for November. I would love to compete in the USA and I am aiming for that and working on my weak points. This is of course, business permitting, I train early and have no problem getting in my workouts-if I have to train at 5 am that's what I will do. The food takes a back seat when I am real busy, not being able to get enough in to fuel everything. For a show the diet has to take on a much higher level. If I can juggle it, I will, I will only step on stage when I am better than last time. At the moment things are heading in the right direction.
My good friend John Heaton has been doing the odd leg workout with myself and Chris over the last year or so.

After spending this last weekend with John and talking about his goals for this year we have struck up a balance of how to train together on a regular basis. Chris is a real good friend and has trained with me for many a competition, so between the 3 of us we will have the right ingredients for some awesome workouts and to take this to another level. We will be like Rocky, Apollo, and Mickey--don't know who is who? --lol.
Here's to making some gains and some great blogs to read.

Going away in the next day or two for just over a week--been so busy of late I need to pull in that life work balance -regroup and move forward- on -to the next goal. For two days before we fly off to the sun, I need to do the Bridlington trip with my little man. This will allow me to slow down a little. Otherwise I do not stop till the day before we head home from the main holiday. There is nothing slower or more relaxing than the coast for me. I will be doing the normal run around with Lou, but it will be a great way to relax and pull me back down to normal speed.

At the tail end of the year -when the shows are coming to the end of the season I am hoping to head over to the good old US-of A- to see Robby and his lovely wife Arden. You may remember that I went over the year before last to train with the legend that is Robby Robinson on his master class program. The following year they came over here and spent time with myself and the family.
For those new to my site please check out the article I wrote on Robby and the trip in the articles section on this site.
This time I will be heading over with the family --Lou my little man can not wait--he loved Robby and still wears the scarf he gave him most days.
The whole LA thing is just another world, anyone who is interested in bodybuilding-fitness-health--must at some time in their life take the trip.

Short and sweet- like me this month--got so much to do before the break for a few days--so I will love ya and leave ya.
Take care be happy, love life--Ian.

NEWS & VIEWS (May '10)

Hi guys.
Welcome to another news and views from the desk here at bodyindesign.
Wow--what a busy last few months--things are going from strength to strength.
First up we have a ton of clients working towards shows this year--many are new to the stage and have made amazing transformations.
The Yorkshire for us is a show we love to do at the end of the month --here is the gang for this one.
Caroline, this girl has been training with Jen at bodyindesign and also been doing the boot camp for over a year.
Caroline --use to come to my old gym- Future Bodies some 8-10 years ago. She has never looked better. She looks awesome, go for it girl.
Fran--has been on the stage before a few years ago now--looks the best she has ever looked --I have been beasting her twice a week for a year now for this one.
Jo---been working with Dan here at bodyindesign --again an amazing transformation --tons of potential--she has everything.
That's it for the girls, last but not least we have Steve in the 70 k --he has made awesome gains--since the MWC--and the British--last year.

The next show we are at is the Heart of England--with, Sara--Kaz--Heather--Clare and Lisa--both Clare and Lisa--come to see us from way down south, very regular. Their first show, I am buzzing for them.
After this show we still have around six more girls to strut their stuff.
last years British winner Caroline --is doing a NABA --show this coming weekend and has plans for a few other shows as well.
She is looking very good--improved again.

I was supposed to be at the Heart of England guest posing --but with business as it is --I had to decline.
To get in top shape --dilutes your business--I have just too many clients to look after at the mo, they have to come first. When the shows slow down a little, I may be able to do something at the end of the year--we will see.
Been doing a lot a changes here at bodyindesign--lots of planning and structuring for the future.
I was looking to move--but set my main goal of staying here for the next 3 years then moving the whole business into a large home/work property. This is something I had planned for the age of 40--but the house market -shot up and we was priced out of that --what we needed was to expensive. So I have signed here for anther 3 years, pay off, all I can of our home in that time- then move to our dream home, with an outbuilding to house the gym. I also want to have another little building to sell organic foods--home made bread--eggs and such. A little farm shop if you will.

With the weather getting better--I have been working some clients from my gym and deck at home--I have also been holding my boot camps for the girls out in the park as well. I love working clients at home--the fields we have over our fence are full of horses at the moment, just an awesome site. As I said above, one day I will be working from a large outhouse out back---the house will be big enough to also have clients that come on fitness weekends stay with us. I can then cover everything--food --the whole works--a total lifestyle thing.
At the moment we use two hotels close to the gym and it works fantastic--but this will be another level--I can cook for them, yep I can cook and make bread as well ha-ha--is there no end to my talents!!!.
So I have a big goal for the next three years--working hard and smart towards it--all the while with Louise ever so supportive in my corner.

Training is going very well--I have made some great gains with the 3 program I have been doing--I have had many clients freak me out with gains on this also.
I was going to put this program out as book---but I have decided to post it free (no catch whatsoever) on this site in sections --so look out for that.
I will put it in the old school section and cover all you need to know about making amazing gains with this program--how to work it into your life--how to cycle it a little to stop burn out--the works.

I am at the Bodypower Expo this month--the 22--and 23rd--with Dynamic sports nutrition--so please come and say hi, would love to chat--make new friends and hook up with old.
James from the company has sponsored me for many years with AST products--one product he had me try was not AST --but was right up my street, is- Fighters Food by nutrabolics---a meal replacement that is chock full of antioxidants and EFA's, a very good product --look it up.

A good friend and client Martin Shippin--has just opened Core fitness and Physique--personal training studio. Martin has been training with me some three years now--transformed --like night and day--had a goal to PT--worked hard towards not only transforming himself but also the goal of one day doing a job he would love. Well he has now opened a studio, I am very proud of Martin-also proud to have him in the train to train fold--look for his information on that section soon. Here is his site--www.corefitnessandphysique.co.uk--Martin will be having an open day soon -I will be there conducting a small seminar for the attendees.
Had an open day a few weeks ago for another member of the train to train section James of Iron Age Gym in Tong.
I had the pleasure of opening the gym along with the worlds best powerlifter Andy Bolton also his training partner James Nuttall one of Britain's best powerlifters.
There was a great turn out--and all went fantastic--I wish James Ward of Iron Age, all the success in the world.

James lent me a great book recently by Dr Ken Leistner, the steel tip --a collection of the news letters that he and his wife Kath produced in the early 80's, if I am not mistaken. These files in that day where ahead of their time--and they still are now.
Look it up on John Woods site--(Kim Woods son) oldtimestrongmen.com

That's all folks--love to ya all Ian.

NEWS & VIEWS (March/April '10)

Hi guys.
Sorry not been able to get here last month, what with the nutrition manual sales on top of my clients, I had another full time job.
I was having to come in to work at 4am to get them processed, anyway -the sales have slowed now, to a more manageable task.
So what's been happening in the bodyindesign camp?
First I have had some great gains -myself and with clients on the 3 program I have been doing-one of the toughest programs I have ever done and I have many clients attest to the same. I have extensive notes on these on my blog--so if you have not seen that check that out.
I plan on writing a book on this --I am on with it at the mo all be it slow as the show season is upon us and I am stacked out with clients.
In the book I will detail the workouts and client case studies.
Talking of books --the spare time I have had --just before I sleep, I have been reading as I always do. One- real good book I have just read, is by a chap called John M Rowley---and he has wrote a book- called Climb Your Ladder of Success.
I must say it is one of the best self help/ success books I have ever read---John is a peak performance speaker and real estate guru --he is also a bodybuilder and was the owner of the R&J health club that was featured in the movie- pumping iron.
A real good read --you can pick it up on amazon.

Going through some subtle but move forward changes here at bodyindesign---just this week, Louise and I embarked on a new 3 year plan that will take us to our ultimate goal for us as a family and for the business.
We spent the weekend just gone, planning, going over figures and setting our stall for the push forward.
With these plans in place I feel even more buzzy-- I now jump out of bed even faster in a morning as I can not wait to start my day.
There is nothing more uplifting than working towards a goal--life is all about the journey and what you do when you are here.
I want to make my little mark on this planet no matter how small.
I have said this before I want to live forever---that's why I write books and touch as many lives as I can. This way when someone pulls a book of mine out of an attic 30 years from now and reads my words and maybe even follows them--well I have done my job. If someone I train and help with nutrition-- passes that on to their kids, or even grandkids --again what have I done? My life's work proceeds me.
I have always thought of myself as more than a personal trainer --I was doing this before it even had a name---I do so much more than that.
Being a part of someone's goals is massive a huge thing--I never take that for granted and I always thank them for being part of it and having trust in me in helping them.

Been speaking to Robby recently --he has a goal of bodybuilding being and Olympic Sport.
He has put together a letter to send to the powers that be.
Please check out his blog on his site and support this cause --if not for us but the future of natural bodybuilding--for those who proceed us.
www.robbyrobinson.net.

I am at the bodypower expo in May with Dynamic Sports Nutrition ---James from the company is the distributor of AST here in the UK.
Looking forward to that.
If you guys are there make sure you come and say hi---would love to see old friends and make some new one's.
Take care love to ya all Ian.

NEWS & VIEWS (February '10)

Hi guys and welcome to another news and views for the month of February.
I would just like to give you a run over what's going on here at bodyindesign for this month and the coming year.

Books.
I am in the latter stages of the Bodyindesign Nutrition Manual, should be done in a couple of weeks.
I have enjoyed writing this so much. It's nothing fancy --but a real good basic take on good clean eating.
It covers my eating habits and how I structure a clients.
There is also a section on contest condition, this will surprise many with the simple basics principles I use.
Contest condition is achieved while keeping your health intact. That does not happen much these days.
Let me show you how.
Look for this on our site available soon.

Blue-print For The Ultimate Figure---is under-going a revamp and being brought up to the current level of shows we are now doing. I now use many more programs and strategies to bring a girl into top shape.
These will be covered in this publication.
The first print sold out --so I am optimistic that this will also be well received.

When these two are finished, I will then get on with Will Of Iron--my bio book.
This book will cover everything ---from shows --life struggles and business.
The book will surprise many --as I have had a very colourful life so far.
Welfare kid, with malnutrition at 5.
From pillar to post with parents.
kicked out of school at 14 and having to stand on my own two feet. Never spoke to my Dad for ten years after that.
I had nothing --no prospects -only a goal, and at 6 stone at 15, it was a big one.

Make a living from bodybuilding and open one of the best gyms in the Uk.
This I have been doing now for most of my life.
And at the risk of sounding a bit of a div---I have done a bloody good job of it.
If this book does not inspire you to give your all each day, I don't know what will.

I get emails from guys out there that want to change their lives, they want to work in the business or something similar.
They are stuck in jobs that pay ok --but leave them drained and lifeless--in short they hate their lives.
Many do PT course and then do nothing with it---they don't know how, or they are scared to make the jump.
I say what the hell are you scared of?
I am nothing special, I just take action, I just do what I want -and think I should do.
Look, I love my life and you should love yours. We are only here once and you are unhappy 5 days a week and then on a Sunday night, thinking of work the next morning.
I have a friend 'James' who is making a big change in his life--I am very proud of him, I am also proud he asks me to be in his corner with each decision he makes.
James suggested that have a lot to offer you guys out there, in respect of helping and inspiring you to take the first step and many more towards your goals.
So here's what I am going to do--I am going to set up a master class, a take action type seminar.

One that will be open to only a few guys who are like minded.
This seminar will be the most motivational kick you in the ass get you doing something thing you will ever attend.
Shoot me an email anybody who has an interest in this project.
I will set a date very soon--it wont be expensive and will be here at bodyindesign, or a near by hotel, the self same hotel can also be booked for people travelling a good distance.
Lets do this--your first action is --send me an email 'now'.
It may be the one that changes your life.

Love to ya all guys Ian.

NEWS & VIEWS (January '10)

Here we are guys---wow another year.
As predicted -I have hit the road running, packed out busy.
Even all the snow never slowed me much as I got here at work before all the cars got on the road.
If clients cancelled because of the weather, well I wrote ( as in doing this now ) and did some phone consultations.
Sorted.
Sat here now with a great big cup of green tea --heater on --lovely.

Talking of writing.
I have pulled out all stops this year to finish the books I started.
Things just got so hectic last year--well this year promises to be even busier - but I have set time aside for writing.
I have a good amount of work done on each and I am real happy with what I have produced.
The books are in-case you have forgotten- are.
Iron Will.
My bio, covers in depth life, mindset, shows, setting up business--well everything.

The Bodyindesign Nutrition Manual.
Covers all my thoughts on nutrition, this will open your mind somewhat to what's conventional for bodybuilders.
This area I have made extensive research into--used myself and clients to prove or disprove theories.

I have got stuck into these and when they are done I will post on the blog--the site and email all my customers.
So sit tight, they are worth the wait.

So many girls and guys competing this year.
Some new clients, with awesome potential I might add.
It humbles me that these people travel so far to see little old me, I have clients all over the country.
So will be at all the shows this year, we only missed, I think two last year.
First up is the World famous -Yorkshire Championships.
I have always thought -if you win the Yorkshire -you will always do well in the finals.
The standard is that high.

The train to train section of my business is also growing again with two new clients opening gyms and studios in the next couple of months.
I enjoy the business side of my work as much as I do training clients.
I love the way an idea and a goal can be planned and stage by stage become a reality.
Over the next couple of months I will have a hand in how these clients set up their dream, again it is so rewarding and humbling.
The site links will be up soon on the train to train section, again I will let you know by the blog.

That's all folks.
I would just like to wish you all an awesome year --make it the best yet.
Love to ya all Ian.
