NEWS & VIEWS (April '08)

Hi guy’s
Hope you are all well and working towards your goals.
If you’re not striving to make your life better- what are you doing each day?
Look, I am 42 now and you will have heard it all before from your Mum and Dad, life goes so fast. As you get older, it goes faster - weeks just fly by, months too, before you know it we are getting ready for another Christmas and even deeper in debt.
Look you have got to have a plan, a goal, life is for living and anything else is a travesty, a waste of life.
I think one of the reasons I am such a sort after trainer is that I help people in many areas of their lives and not just the health and fitness side.
I am a people person, through and through, sometimes I am asked-“do you have a crystal ball”. I help people with stress, work problems, goal setting, business, career choice, you name it. So I see a pattern, I see people are lost, unhappy, I see that many deep down know there is more in them and I help bring that out.
Now this can take on any shape or form. It may be your goal to work hard-save, pay off your mortgage and then spend many months of the year seeing the world. It may be that you would love to be an artist, an author and earn a living doing so.
Well, what is stopping you? There is a way, there is always a way. You may be trapped in a dead end job that you hate and you have bills to pay. Well why don’t you work hard and save as much as you can, sell everything you don’t need and set to work on your dream. The sadist thing in the world must be when on your last days on this earth you say “if only—what if I had tried to do that, would I have made it?”

You will never know unless you try. If you want to do something, get off your butt and do it. Don’t wait to win the lottery, do what you want to do—now.
People always see problems and never spend enough time on the positives. The problems are nothing if the goal is worth it, you have to pay a price, nothing is free.
If your goal costs you, giving up nights out on the weekend and extra shifts—so be it, at least you are striving towards a better living.

As you can see I am very passionate about life and living it to it’s fullest, I also try to make everyone else see what they are capable of. Sometimes all people need is a shove, someone to tell them—“you can do it—go ahead—get on with it—your ok—now your living life.
I love this work so much that later in the year I am going to hold a Mind Set Seminar. Keep an eye on the page on this site for details, this seminar will change your mind set and your life. In the mean time---live yours now.

Read some awesome books over the last couple of months.
I would like to tell you about them, as they can be life changing.

One such book, I would have in my top five books of all time and I have read thousands it’s called Ultramarathonman. By Dean Karanzes.
This book was just awesome and blew my mind, inspirational beyond words, one hell of a book.
Dean is an ultramarathon runner who will run- at times- hundreds of miles non stop, even over mountains.

Dean is not your typical marathon runner as he has a great build and carries a lot of muscle tissue. He trains hard and eats clean to maintain this build and at 43 –or so now is in fantastic shape.
His dedication to his sport is deeply ingrained-but does not infringe on his family life or his business goals—that to me is an ultimate athlete—lives life and is a success in all areas.
To do this he gets up at 4am and runs the streets before his family get up. He then helps his wife sort the children out for school, takes them to school and then starts his day as he owns and runs a health food nutrition company or he works on writing his new book.
I won’t tell you anymore about this book, it is one of those that makes you laugh, cry and inspires the hell out of you. You can pick this up on amazon.co.uk.

Another great book is called 150 of the healthiest foods on earth. By Jonny Bowden. As you can guess the title says it all.

Jonny Bowden is a fantastic nutritionist in the USA who has done work with the likes of Charles Poliquin. I have read countless nutrition books and found this one to be a breath of fresh air, as many books are contradictory.

Jonny cuts through lots of red tape in a clear precise way. If you want the best foods for your body and fitness goals this book is for you. One of those you will pick up again and again. Also available from amazon.co.uk

The next book I would like to suggest you will have to do a bit of shopping around for, as it is no longer in print and I paid a lot for it. It depends were your priorities are on this one.
I spent the money as I know it will pay me big dividends, but only if I put what I learn into practice.
The book is called The life story of Anthony Robbins, by Michael Bolduc.

I have been a fan of Anthony Robbins for many years and I can say that hand on heart without his life changing books, and other authors - I would not be were I am today. He is so powerful that you can change your life by implementing his strategies. I have seen it happen to myself and those close to me. One of my training partners a few years ago went on one of his seminars and within 12 months, he had gone to night school-got a computer qualification then got a job in New Zealand, sold up and went to start a new life with his family. He now has a big house with a pool and an awesome, well paid job.
Before he worked as a French polisher.
The book covers how Tony was kicked out of his house at 17 and how he made it to being one of the highest paid people on the planet.
Search this out—and work out, would it be worth the cost to you?
The money is irrelevant as I know I will make far more from the knowledge and inspiration it gave me.

Check out Marks page on the Train to Train section.
Mark is based in the Malton-Pickering area and has worked with me for a few months now. He is an awesome trainer that cares about his clients and is looking to have deep impact into this field of work.
Mark is a great writer and he will be popping some great articles on his page every month. So please check it out.
The Train to Train is going very well with four clients waiting in the wings. I had to put this on hold a while when setting up my new studio, but it’s back to it now. I enjoy this line of work immensely, and it’s a great feeling to know that you have helped trainers turn their business around and more often than not trebling their income and improving lifestyles.

There has been a little change in plan regarding the DVD. I have had so much interest in my new book, I am presently working on that I have decided to film the DVD to cover the workouts I am now doing, which are of the same principles as HIT and how I would work clients. The book—Fit For Business-covers hard, all body workouts in minimum time. It will also cover easy to follow eating plans that are low maintenance and quick. This is exactly what I do as I am a business man first and fore most. I have to be to feed my family, so time and getting the job done here is of the utmost importance.
Having said that it does not mean that the workouts are unproductive—far from it, all I am saying is I get the job done and get on with my day.

I am training 2-3 days a week for 30 minutes at a time working the large basic exercises hard and fast, so I can be fit as well as strong and look my best.
As of writing this, I am a lean 157lb at 5/3 and squatting 4 ½ plates for reps and dead-lifting 4 and clean and pressing two 70lb dumbbells for sets of ten.
I am happy with my strength and the way I look and even though I am not competing I still want to look good, be strong fit and healthy.

Hard work, minimum fuss and effort.
That also runs over into my eating habits, as always I eat all organic and cover these foods. Eggs, oats, wild salmon, nuts, seeds, fresh vegetables, fruit, including lots of berries, potatoes and sweet potatoes. I also eat organic pumpkin seed rye bread, chicken maybe 2-3 times a week and I will have my stable protein shake AST XGF every day. I top all this off with 2 litres of highland organic spring water.
There is a lot to be said for the basics, hard work and clean eating.
Keep an eye on this site for a release date.

Thank you for reading.
Take care of yourselves and those you love.
Remember live life, get up tomorrow put a big smile on your face and work towards a goal.
Yours always Ian.

NEWS & VIEWS (March '08)

Hi guys, hope you are all well and life is awesome for you.

Well, where to start this month.

Last month was an absolutely fantastic month as it was so productive.

H.I.T Camp

The H.I.T Camp was a hit, a very enjoyable day and I met some great new friends with great potential.

The H.I.T side of training is causing some interest as the folder I set up for the camp has been selling steadily.

Thank you each and every person who attended the camp and thank you for your trust and judgement in this area of your lives.

I have plans for another camp- a posing workshop- in May. Look for dates to be announced.

This will cover all aspects of competition posing, choice of music, tanning, the works.

As the show season is upon us this is an ideal time for this workshop.

I have plans for a girls day and a guys day- keep an eye on this site for details and dates in May.

The New Bodyindesign Studio

My main goal this year was to open a new studio for my bodyindesign business and a Train to Train office.

I found an ideal unit in Batley that is perfect for this goal and opened for business on 27 th February.

The unit is on two floors. The first floor is the gym studio with mainly Nytram Pro gym equipment. Martyn, founder of Nytram, is and has been a good friend and business associate of mine for more than 20 years.

Every gym I have had, I have always turned to Martyn. He has over the years made some fantastic kit for me and always customised it to my needs. His service and installation is second to none, a true tradesman, thank you Martyn.

The second floor is an office and private changing area with everything provided from towels to a hairdryer and straighteners to general toiletries and creams.

Also available are, coffee, tea and other drinks in a home from home setting to make everything as comfortable as possible after a hard workout.

The exclusiveness of this studio lends itself well to the Train to Train programme and gives the client ideas of how to run a successful studio.

My goal was to give my clients- and Train to Train clients a positive, hard working studio with the benefits of a private home from home environment.

The Yorkshire Championships

The NPA Yorkshire this year is just around the corner and as of the time of writing this it is twelve weeks away.

I am looking forward to this show- big style- this year it is just around the corner from me at the Frontier Club in Batley. This place has a lot of good memories for me as I won my first competition there way back when I was a young lad, I won the Under 18's Yorkshire Championships.

There are some 8 girls in this show from the bodyindesign stable and a couple of guys.

AST are one of the main sponsors of this event and I will be on the AST stand so come and have a chat, I would love to meet you.

For more details on this show to be held on June 1st ring Michael J Philips on 01484 683685.

I have plans for a new book this year which I will start writing shortly, as soon as I have settled into my new environment and filmed the H.I.T DVD again in the next few weeks, I will get right on with it.

The book will be called 'Fit For Business' with the basic premise of hard abbreviated workouts for the businessman, the man who wants to be strong, lean and agile with little time devoted to this goal.

I liken this book to the Fight Club movie where upon the businessman will train 2-3 times a week on the basic but hardest exercises and eat a basic clean diet and get in shape and think no more about it therefore leaving time for what he does best- business. The movie depicted corporate men meeting to compete in fighting, normal everyday guys and business men taking there ties off-rolling up their sleeves and going for it. They woke up-came alive again, did something animalistic. Then put their ties back on and went back to work.

This is how I want the book to be-business - hard graf t - good food - back to business and family - first rule - don't talk about it - just do it.

I was in touch the other day with an old friend from around 10 years ago, Simon Martin.

Simon used to come up and see me at Future Bodies in his competing days- Simon was no slouch in this department as at his last show he placed second behind the great Robert Feesey.

Simon has kept himself in mega shape all these years and is looking to take to the stage again. As you can see by the photo he has a thick set, well balanced physique.

He is a man after my own heart in that we train in a similar fashion. Simon only uses the basic of movements, Squats- Chins- Dead lifts- Rack Press- Clean & Press.

It was great catching up with you my old friend, go for it mate.

Take care of yourself and those you love.                                                     Love Ian

NEWS & VIEWS (Feb '08)

Hi Guys,

Hope all is well with you all and you are striving towards those goals you set yourself a few weeks ago.
This year for me has got quick off the blocks.

As at the time of writing this, it is one week to the first H.I.T Camp- I have 8 clients booked for this event and I am looking forward to the day so much.
The Camp covers all aspects of high intensity training and how my clients and I have made awesome gains training this way.

Up to the Worlds for 8 weeks I only trained twice a week and I felt I had improved more than at the Pro Am and guest posing at the NPA British.

I trained on a two way split that I used for shows and will cover this and other programs at the event.

At present I am on a high intensity, full body program that is designed to induce growth and lower body-fat levels on only two workouts a week.
I am always lean and find I have to eat an enormous amount of food to stop myself becoming too lean.
Each workout takes me around 20 minutes, 15 of these are brutal. I do two all body workouts with slightly different movements in each workout, i.e. one workout would be Leg Press then another Squat, one workout Bench Press then the other Dumbbell Incline Press.
I do one set to fail on 8-12 exercises that will cover my whole body.

For the H.I.T Camp I have made up a folder to give to the client that covers all aspects of this form of training.
For those who are not attending I can make this available. Give me a call and for a small fee and postage I will send you one out. 01924 479999.

I have some new T Shirts on sale that I designed for the H.I.T. event and as you can see from the photo they are black with a H.I.T logo on the front and picture of Lee Labrada- the same limited edition print of the drawing I did of him. This is on the back with the writing H.I.T – High Intensity Training. Please check them out- Small, Medium and Large sizes are available.

Train to Train is growing.
Mark Hancock is just finishing his work with me and will have his page on this site shortly.
Mark I have known for a number of years now and I am proud to have him among the bodyindesign training group.

Anthony’s business is growing and he is gaining an awesome reputation. John’s business has exploded too and every time I talk to him (when I can as I am very busy as well) he always has some new clients.
Mark is based in the Malton-Pickering area and business has got off to a great start. Mark is a fantastic, caring trainer that will go far. Look for his page coming soon. He is also a great writer.

Every time I have a Train to Train client I give them a business manual for them to refer to. This I have added to on each occasion to the point where I have covered all aspects of running a successful business.
If you want to improve your PT business- invest, learn and then earn.

These I have made available to Personal Trainers out there who cannot make it on my Train to Train course for whatever reason- whether it be funds or distance for example as I get emails from the USA.
I have an ad for my manual out in this coming month’s Ultrafit magazine and I am looking forward to the sales that follow.
I am very proud of this manual and I know it can improve a trainer’s income by 3 fold, if they follow the strategies I have outlined in it.

I have just finished a transformation program with a great client named Vincent Kerr.
In 12 weeks he lost just under two stone and increased muscle size and gained a great athletic shape. At 46 and a very busy businessman, Vince looked dramatically different. I was so proud of him, he is one of the hardest workers I have ever trained.
Look for an in depth article on Vince soon on this site.
P.S. Vince trained H.I.T and did no CV.

The competition season is already upon us.
I have started posing practice with the girls, after Saturday’s Boot Camps.
First stop for bodyindesign is the Yorkshire held at the Frontier in Batley.
Girls who have their eye on this show and others this year are Debbie- Karen- Sam- Danielle-Louise- Angela- Heather.
That will be one hell of a show.
Take care and look after yourselves and those you love. Love Ian.

NEWS & VIEWS (Jan '08)

Well here you go- you should be hitting the road running this year.
Make ’08 your best year yet - whatever your goals.

Don’t wait till tomorrow- do them today. Make a step towards them, now- just do it.
If you haven’t already written out your goals you had better go out now and buy a goals book. If the shops are closed at the time of reading this then pick up some paper and start now by writing them out. You can stick this page in your goals book later.

So, how are you doing?
Write your goals out under headings of what you would like to achieve- examples could be:
Compete.
Become Manager at work.
A Holiday in Florida for the family.

You can have as many as you want.
If you could have anything and nothing would stop you from achieving a goal- what would you write down?
Well write it. It’s better to aim high than not at all. Surely you don’t want ’08 to just drift by with no improvements of any kind in any area of your life?
Well write out your headings then sit in a quiet room and put some flesh into them.
How are you going to do that?
Here’s some ideas for our examples:

Compete
1. Join NPA- make a commitment.
2. Tell those close to me my intentions, this will make me step up to the mark.
3. Start a diet.
4. Constantly strive to find the knowledge to help me be my best.
5. Give 100% to this goal from day one and never, never back down from it.

Manager
1. Work harder and smarter.
2. Increase the value of my work.
3. Get in early, work through lunch and leave late. Must show I am committed.
4. Look for opportunities to better the company.
5. Keep my eye on the goal and move up the ladder in my workplace.

Holiday in Florida
1. Must save.
2. Book it, this will give me x amount of months to pay for it and will help me save as I have a deadline.
3. Work overtime and save the extra income.

Can you see that writing your goals out can put a foundation under a goal.
Write them down in your goal book, look at them every day and get to work.

As I mentioned in last month’s news and views John Heaton had signed up to the Bodyindesign Train to Train programme. In the six weeks or so of mentioning John, success after success has been coming his way.
One such opportunity has been that he has been offered the role of being the Head Personal Trainer for the Wakefield based Total Fitness Gym.
This is fantastic as this is a large gym chain and eventually John will be a co-ordinator for the other gyms. With this other opportunities will surely follow.

News on the DVD
Thank you for all the enquiries about the H.I.T DVD. Unfortunately the quality was not good enough, when I watched it I found myself wanting so much more of a professional job.
So my plan is to shoot it all again in the New Year. Gary has put some time aside for me on this project and I know it will be bang on.

Gary did not film the last one as he was busy at the time but he did design the cover and booklet to accompany the DVD. The DVD in no way, shape or form matched Gary’s work on these things.
So we are working on the whole thing together so look out for it in the New Year.

New for 2008
I have a new book in the pipeline and many of my other books and booklets will be available in
e-book format.
Looking forward to a great year with my clients at the NPA shows this year.
Thank you for all your continued support. Remember- set goals and be the best that you can be.
Love Ian.

NEWS & VIEWS (Dec '07)

Well what a year- this year has just been my best ever.
All the hard work for years and years has finally paid off.
I kept on plugging away at business and competing and finally they came to a perfect finish.
I have had an awesome year, competing wise my best ever- not only myself but with clients too.
Everything I have done this year has molded into another area of my life.
To give you an idea- I won the Pro Am, worked hard to win it. It paid off with AST running a full page ad of me in Musclemag and Muscle and Fitness, on that add they have kindly put my web address. This will bring more people to my site. I was asked to guest pose at the NPA British because I won the Pro Am, BBC got hold of me whilst there. "If you go to the Worlds we will go with you" they said.
I wasn't going to do the Worlds as I was busy with business but the opportunity was there- all because of the Pro Am.
"Ok I will do it" I said. Whilst in shape getting ready for the Worlds I took the opportunity to make a DVD of my training.
I won the Worlds which will help me sell the DVD and the AST ad will bring more eyes to my site, all because of working hard- harder for the Pro Am. You see one good thing in your life can bring other opportunities your way; your whole life becomes richer.

The Train to Train programme is just fantastic- I enjoy it so much.
By March we will have six trainers on this site, by the end of the year sixteen and moving onward and upward.
All the mistakes I made in business in the past are now helping others.

John Heaton is my Train to Train client as I write this and by the time this article is posted he will have his page up on this site.
John as you may know is the NPA Heavyweight British winner of 2006- and he runs a Personal Training business.
His business- Absolution- has been up and running for a few years now but he needs me to help him get to the next level.
John is great to work with and also a good friend.
Please check out his page.

Looking forward to the New Year...

Every Christmas I go off to a quiet place in the house and plan out my goals for the New Year.
This I write down in a Goals and Ideas book. I have a new one each year and fill it with goals I would like to achieve. I have stacks of these books as I have done this since being very young, I must say I know I would not have achieved what I have so far in my life without those books.
You have to have goals, you have to have a direction.
Many times in my life I have tried things and they have not worked- but for 20 losses, the one you win or the one business thing that works is worth it.
You just keep on getting up and having another go.
I have plans, goals, ideas and many things I want to do next year.
Don't just tread water- make goals. Write them down and enjoy the journey- you only live once.

Look back over this year- Have you taken steps forward to improve your life? Have you made steps to improve your health, strength or physique?
The world is full of opportunities- it's up to you to take them when they pass your way. Success is not going to tap you on the head and say "Here I am". No, you have to look for it and then take action.
Make 2008 your best ever year.
Love to you all, Ian.

There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, can circumvent, or hinder, or control the firm resolve of a determined soul.
Gifts count for nothing, will alone is great.
All things give way before it sooner or later.
What obstacle can stray the mighty force of a sea seeking river in it's course, or cause the ascending orb of day it's wait.
Each well born soul must win what it deserves.
Let the fool prate of luck. The fortunate is he whose earnest purpose never swerves. Whose slightest action or inaction swerves, the one great aim.

NEWS & VIEWS (Nov '07)

Well the month of October was just out of this world.

Here’s what happened for me and the bodyindesign camp...
The British Championships were a fantastic success for us. The girls came out on top. Jenny won- Claire was second- Debbie was third and Karen was sixth.
Wayne Braddock won the Novice class and looked awesome and best presentation. John Heaton, who had been to see me for a little guidance, came second in the heavyweights with a much improved condition over the Pro Am. He also won Best Presentation.
I felt I had come in a little tighter for my guest pose and a little fuller- so I was very happy. My routine went down very well and I was overwhelmed with all the positive attention I received backstage.
To top all this – BBC TV asked if they could do a programme on me. Of course I said yes. They followed me around all day filming and interviewing me and the girls. It was, like I said, all overwhelming. A fantastic day.
They are even coming to the World Championships with me.
Fingers crossed I will do Britain proud. There is a fantastic team going to Madrid and I cannot wait to spend time with the gang.

Jenny and John are also going, John came second last year and I hope he can pull it off this time. Jenny has placed second twice in the Worlds so third time lucky. She is also the best she has ever been.

I have over the last few weeks been filming my new training DVD, H.I.T- for the workout of your life.
This is a high intensity training DVD that covers the preparation I have been doing for the World Championships- so obviously, I am in top shape and training at peak intensity. This will be out soon!

AST- have been fantastic this year. I do credit a lot of the difference in condition I attained this year down to their products.

After I won the Pro Am they put together this ad for Musclemag and Muscle and Fitness. I was so overwhelmed, it made all the hard work over the last six months well worth it.
AST have been fantastic with me- but let’s not forget that all my clients use their products too. AST not only sponsor me but bodyindesign- so the girls used them for all their show wins and also anybody else who is associated with me.

The Train to Train side of bodyindesign started at the end of October with my first client, Anthony, whose biography and web page is located in the bodyindesign registered trainer in your area section.
Anthony is the first of many- he wanted to be the first. We have had a great time in our meetings and have made very successful steps forward in business for both of us.
I am so proud to be chosen by Anthony to help further his education and knowledge. We have established a long term business association that will benefit us both and all that we come into contact with.
Please check out Anthony’s page.

Hey here’s to an awesome few months to Christmas and here’s to a fantastic year ahead.
Take care and love to you all, Ian.

:::::::News flash:::::::
As you may now know Jenny
and myself won the Worlds.
Jenny was against the strongest field of figure girls I have ever seen.
She was a stand out with her shape and condition from the word go and her stage presence was faultless.
Awesome Jen you did it, very proud of you.

NEWS & VIEWS (Oct '07)

Onwards to the British NPA
Finals 2007
The Bodyindesign team

The girls on for the British are Jenny, Claire, Karen, Debbie and Angela.
Sam qualified but after moving house and work commitments has decided not to compete- Also Jane, having been through a similar situation, also declined. Last but not least Linzi also qualified but is busy with work commitments so also declined her invite.
Jenny is the 2005 winner and 2007 BNBF British winner also, having won their finals two weeks ago in Edinburgh, looking very good.
Claire is last year’s NPA winner and is defending her title. She also looks spot on.
Karen and Debbie placed first and second with Angela coming in third at the Mike Williams Classic at the weekend.
Karen and Debbie looked mega and have got their heads down for the finals. Angela was given a qualifying place as well which delighted her. Angela is awesome and even more awesome at 49 years old- yes 49.
Last but not least is Wayne Braddock who is in the Novice class and is looking very sharp and in the zone.

As you may know from my training log I won the Pro Am on the said same weekend. I was over the moon and it was an awesome day. I knew I had to be my best and pulled out everything I had, at 41, 42 in a couple of weeks, I felt my back was against the wall and needed to prove to myself I had it in me still.
As Stallone said in a recent Rocky movie ‘There was something still in the basement’.
I needed to give it all I had and I came out on top- so happy especially since the competition was so tough.
I did a few different things this year with my diet and it paid off with a new level I had not been at before.
Now I can pass that information on to others it will help.

Business is taking off for me in a big way with the train to train programme.
I start in a couple of weeks with my first client and then I am booked for months after.

There are some great products out there to help the budding natural bodybuilder. Two great products are Jon Harris – his book Pro Natural is very good as is his DVD, very informative and professional and one fantastic bodybuilder.
Tony Motalbano’s DVD is also very good and gives a fly on the wall account of life as a competitive bodybuilder. Again it’s very informative and an entertaining watch. It covers last year where upon Tony won nearly everything he entered.

A book worth a mention is Strongman- The Doug Hepburn Story. This book is fantastic and I read it all over the Pro Am weekend, an awesome story, inspirational and very thought provoking. I picked this up on Amazon.co.uk

Looking forward to the British.
Please come and say Hi, I love to meet old friends and new ones.

Give it your all those getting ready for this show.
When it gets hard just remember that in 10 years time you will look back on this time in your life with pride.
Leave nothing here, give it your all, enjoy the journey and place it in your memories.
Love to you all.
Take care Ian.
