  • 20 years of training myself as a hobby and topic of general interest, I have tried other sports but I always come back to training with weights and other types of resistance training. I started with a box of 12" singles in my bedroom at age 14! I have a passion for weight training and have always loved it. It has been the one constant in my life.
  • I am a big supporter of 'natural' i.e. drug free bodybuilding... although I do not like the term 'bodybuilder' really because people immediately think 'uses drugs, is not healthy, vain, probably stupid!'...it's very annoying. I have never taken steroids and I personally have more respect for the natural body builders who use only hard work to get where they are.... I have always put my job first and as a result have been successful - but at the expense of my sporting goals. I am now applying my work principles to Personal Training and sporting goals and guess what - I'm going from strength to strength in all areas. I simply told myself to do it and make it work - no excuses!

I was very fortunate to be sent on a Mindstore course run by Jack Black - not the fat American actor who likes to play air guitar - but arguably the best personal development speaker in the UK. I was always sceptical about these courses / people but this was something else; in 2 days I learned more than in the 5 years I wasted at school as a teenager. I have since been trained further with Jack and have read extensively on this subject. I have applied these techniques and methods of positive thinking and formulated a system that can be applied to fitness / physical improvement / body management / bodybuilding - call it what you will - and this therefore puts me in a really good position in terms of teaching others. Applying this to a workout and physical change programme is just one avenue you can take with this; much more can be done with it if you so wish.

Personal Trainers

There are PT's in every gym you go to. Most I see are pleasant people who like working with others but the results most get are limited as they only focus on the workout itself, immediate issues and 'current reality goals' discussed in the gym itself with the client. This is not the approach I take; I need you to confide in me your 'Future Perfect' dreams, the big things you have had in your head probably for months if not years and from this, with the application of techniques in and out of the gym, you will progress at a rate that will really surprise you. You will gain so much more than just physical results.

Behind me as support is Ian Duckett - this is a man who, in his early forties, is still a World Champion in competition. If there was a World Championship for Personal Trainers he would probably hold that also! With Ian's backing in all aspects of training, diet, mindset and goal setting you are assured of 100% good service. The bottom line is I care about all aspects of the service I provide. Ian cares too and because of this you will never be let down.

Questions you may have......

"Of all the Sports and 'Activities' out there why would I want to train with boring old weights and cables?"

As I said, I have always enjoyed training with weights, however for someone who does not 'get' weight / resistance training it can be difficult to describe what is so enjoyable about it. To me it's about the natural high you get after training hard - but you have to train hard to get it! Just going through the motions makes it boring, ineffective and people who feel bored and don't get results stop training. In a nutshell, most people train like this and the result?......they end up looking like most people!

  Beyond the training itself is the increased confidence you get from feeling and looking better. Some people, negatively, see this as purely vanity - ignore them - negative people will find a reason to bring anything down to their low level. The most negative people I know have the least going for them; conversely the most positive people I know have the most. Trust me here - the more you train and work hard in the gym, the more positive you will become - about everything .

Resistance / weight training is a fantastic way to bring about positive body change. It does not have to take up a huge amount of time either and this is the big advantage of it. With an intense working session of as little as 15-30 minutes a full body workout can be achieved that works all your major muscles and cardio vascular system.

So getting fitter and stronger is the easy bit! - to get a significantly leaner 'you' then requires self-discipline with diet; a challenge for almost everyone on a daily basis! But by no means insurmountable, i.e. you can do it! Remember, the only failure is in no longer trying.

Why would I want to spend money to be trained when I can just go a gym and train myself??!

  • How many people who are successful in sport do not have a coach / trainer / mentor? Erm, none!
  • How many times would you not bother to train if you had not planned and paid to see a Personal Trainer - quite a few times probably and the longer your 'pause' is between sessions the less likely you are to go back at all - Result? No improvements or painfully slow improvements.
  • It's very difficult to be objective about yourself!! - You see yourself everyday so it's hard to notice decline or improvement - this can be a real problem with motivation, you just don't know where you are with your progress.
  • Ladies, how much would you spend on a hair cut that you knew would be better than the £10.00 a go place?!
  • How much do you spend on your car per month?
  • How about a tank of fuel?
  • What is your monthly clothes bill - do you need those clothes?
  • Now compare this to how much you invest in your 'first wealth' i.e. you! Your health is of paramount importance with regards to your ability to enjoy life yet many of us take it for granted .

I don't want to get all preachy about this because it's taken me years to get over cravings / addictions to junk foods but it would have taken so much less time if I had thought about what I really wanted to achieve in my life and sought out a good personal trainer to make sure I made as few mistakes as possible whilst learning the right things to do. Often times we are mostly aware of what we want and mostly aware of the things we should not be doing yet we continue to do them anyway because, well, because it's easier to drift along and pontificate than to actually do something about it. Also you may start something and your family or friends around you make fun of it or actively discourage you as it actually makes them feel a bit threatened - so you stop and go back to the way you were - "next month / year / birthday, I'll do it then" you say to yourself!

Please break that cycle, it's not easy to start for the majority of people but it is so worth it. I dare you to really try and make those sacrifices because in as little as 4 weeks they will not be sacrifices any more, just bad habits you will quickly forget and wonder why you were a slave to them for so long.

What can I expect in terms of actual training
methods and structure?

The majority of training will be based around weights, bands and bodyweight exercises. The sessions will be tailored to your fitness condition and goals. There will be plenty of variety from session to session. There is no magic formula, just a sound approach with hard but manageable sessions.

I will also share with you methods of 'working-in' a positive approach to your mind-set before physically 'working-out'. These methods are tried and tested and I can show you lots of success stories associated with these techniques.

Don't worry if you have not exercised for a while and feel totally out of shape and intimidated by the whole process! You will enjoy it!

If you are accomplished in your particular sport and want to start beating some personal-bests then we will look at improving your strength in the most relevant muscles groups to enable you to measurably progress.
